how many sides does a box have?

answers to this question vary: some may answer 4, if they are imagining an image of a square which would represent the box. some may answer 6, as it is also true for a die with six faces/sides. while some others will answer 2: the inside and the outside!

no matter which side you take, it really doesn't matter since all answers are correct in their own way! and this is the same in the field of arts and crafts-- the beauty (or correctness) of a thing is its uniqueness, spontaniety and raw appeal. there are no wrong or right answers! just the one that suits you best.

i feel lucky that i ended up to be in a design career that helped me develop my aesthetic skills, as well as the sensitivity to other people's perspective or point of view. though i may sometimes be very critical at other's works that i am provoked in saying things i shouldn't say, i still maintain that respect for other people who i know worked hard enough in coming up with something they think is good for them. no wrong or right things to do-- just the good things you love doing yourself! that's all that matters!

investing in your child's memory bank

i came across a short article earlier this week in Family Minute that says a person's happy memories in childhood usually consist of vacation trips, family activities even as trivial as outdoor barbecues, or simply having fun doing things together. i believe in this 100%! even if it's only a trip to the cinemas to watch the movies Transformers or Harry Potter, you can make it more memorable for your kid by going the extra mile and sustaining the happy mood if you enjoy it together. talk about the movie while looking at the poster ad at the cinema lobby--that will surely be a good conversational start!

even if things don't turn out to be so great like raining on the day you went out on the beach for a swim, your child will remember it most if he sees the whole family enjoying the rain together without worry! top it off with sharing a nice warm chocolate drink or clam chowder soup at your favorite diner and it'll surely be at the top of your child's memory for so long.

i remember our family's recent trip to a summer get-away place: it was our first time to bring the car to a trip that far since it was bought 4 years ago. we got lost several times along the way, but we enjoyed the unexpected food treats that we had together. we didnt find at once a decent place to stay, but we discovered a lot more sights to see and visit during our 3-day stay.

so make the most out of the situation you'll be in during this summer! enjoy yourself, cherish each moment that you spend with your family, and it'll surely be imprinted in your child's memory bank for a long time!

you know what will keep the kids busy this summer? art, of course! no matter where you are, whatever trips or other activities you are planning to do, there is always an opportunity to make the kids productive by doing some arts & crafts that will bring extra fun to your summer activity. even while you're still on the road, there is always something that the kids can do to make the trip more enjoyable. try doing something that wont require much table space like hand puppets, maybe?

how about making some sunshade hats while on the beach? isnt it more fun to wear something original that you did on your own? and you'll be surprised that it won't cost you that much!

you might also want to teach art lessons yourself in your own backyard, with all the kids in the neighborhood attending your class! with an expert backing you up, you need not fear! there are a lot of e-books available online that you can get to help you start that summer art classes. the lessons are very flexible, and the materials required for the projects are very easy to find.
